Insulation Rating/R-Value:
Open Cell Foam: R-3.8 per inch average
Closed Cell Foam: R-6.0 - 6.5 per inch average
Fiberglass: R-3.4 per inch average (depending on density)
Cellulose: R-3.75 per inch average (depending on density)
Air and Vapor/Moisture Permeability:
Open Cell Foam: Air Barrier = Sometimes, Vapor/Moisture Barrier = No
Closed Cell Foam: Air Barrier = Yes, Vapor/Moisture Barrier = Yes (@ 2" nominal thickness)
Fiberglass: Air Barrier: No, Vapor/Moisture Barrier = No
Cellulose: Air Barrier: No, Vapor/Moisture Barrier = No
Is R-Value important in SPF?
R-Value = Measurement to test resistance to heat flow.
When applying open cell foam, fiberglass or cellulose R-Values are important
since it takes more R-Value to get the desired performance. With Closed Cell Foam the R-Value is less
important since it is a complete air barrier at any thickness and it is very
effective at reducing heat transfer at less R-Values than open cell or fibrous
products.
How Long does SPF last?
SPF lasts the life of the structure.
Can I insulate my home that was built years ago?
How much will it cost insulate my home?
Every project is different and the needs of each owner varies. Material prices
fluctuate. Please call or contact us online to set up an appointment for a
free estimate.
*Please Note* Insulation Estimates are free of charge.
Full Certified
Energy Audits with Report - $0.15 per square foot up to 5,000
square feet. $0.10 per square foot over 5,000 square feet. $300.00 Minimum.
Are you Licensed/Certified?
Do you spray wet cellulose?
No, we do not believe in "wet" applications. We use dry products, for wall
"spray" applications we offer our
Blown In Blanket system that is safe, chemical free and has higher R-Values.
How long will it take to SPF my house?
Each job is different. We operate as quickly and efficiently as possible while
providing the highest quality. We can discuss time frame and schedule when you
are close to the insulation phase.
When will I see results in saving energy costs if I use SPF?
Immediately after you begin operating the heating & cooling. From the first
energy bills.
What is the difference between "open cell" and "closed cell" foam?
Can you blow insulation on top of my old insulation in my attic?
Yes, the only time it is necessary to remove old insulation in an attic is if it
has fire or water damage, dirty insulation is ok.
What is the difference between blowing fiberglass insulation vs. cellulose?
Fiberglass blowing wool is chemical free and lasts up to 3 times longer in
attics as cellulose. Cellulose contains a variety of chemicals, oils and
starches including corrosives.
Does a house need to breathe?
Houses do not need to breathe. People need to breathe. Air tight and energy
tight homes need professionally installed HVAC fresh air circulation systems.
Does SPF provide sound proofing?
SPF does have sound control qualities. Open cell and closed cell foams cover
different sound frequencies and neither control sound as well as fiberglass
insulation.
Does your company travel?
Yes, for SPF anywhere. For fiberglass jobs generally 150 mile radius.
Will SPF add structural support?
Closed Cell Foam can add up to 300% more structural strength. It is being used
on the southern coast for hurricane protection.
